Central Plogging

Central Retail Corporation PCL. (“Central Retail”) has consistently continued its annual “Mega Project”; Central Love The Earth. Organizing, for the first time, a jog and pick the waste event at one of the most prominent green areas nearby Bangkok, Khung Bang Kachao, Central Plogging also aims to offer participants a substantial amount of knowledge on our environment.

“Bang Kachao is among the areas regarded by Central Retail with utmost importance.” said Nicolo Galante, the company’s executive director. Being the area highly cherished by Thai people as well as its status of being the 7th world’s highest ozone producing area while also serving as a famous tourist attraction, Galante described the area’s inevitable challenge of waste management, including the solid waste. “We, myself, staffs, customers and other partners at Central Retail, are therefore delighted to launch this event to ensure the area’s cleanliness and garbage-free status.  I firmly believe that today’s plogging will become a point where we begin rising awareness in social responsibility and in environment among Thai community.” Galante continued.

The event was divided into five stations. Having staffs from the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion provide relevant knowledge in each station, the first station concerns carbon footprint calculation, the second station deals with waste calculation and answering questions from waste management advisory system “Startup GooGreen”, the third station Everyday say no to plastic bag is to advocate a reduction in plastic bag usage, the fourth station “Four Bins and Hundreds of Waste” aims to offer knowledge related to each type of waste and its sorting, the last station “Run and Sort” is to ask participants to pick up waste while running and sort them to a specific type for recycling process. Qualified waste for recycling will be processed for further usage such as plastic-made cloth and robe for Buddhist monk and bottle cap-made oil.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Supersports as a principal sponsor in this event. My thanks and appreciation shall also be extended to collaboration between our staffs, customers, the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Jak Dang Temple and Startup GooGreen for their commitment to put environmental protection and conservation as their highest priority. On behalf of Central Retail, it is my commitment to continue this Central Love The Earth campaign and to invite everyone to follow our further events to bring our plant greener and more sustainable.” Galante finished his remark.

As the chair of OUR Khung Bangkachao working group of vocational development, Central Group has, moreover, contributed its supports to the community in various dimensions. Its development plan aims to address four key development agendas; 1) Green Market is aimed to achieve the community’s market toward a more environment-friendly sale; 2) Green Product is to develop a more environment-friendly product; 3) A more diversified sale platform such as online and delivery; and 4) An allocation of areas or corners within Central World and Central Chitlom, in particular at TOPS and Central Food Hall, for goods from the community. The plan’s ultimate objective is to achieve community’s income creation and distribution and to allow community participation in preserving its own tradition and way of life, while ensuring the consistent development in tourism related service quality and sustainable development.
